No one should have to sleep alone in the cold and rain.

Officials are working quickly to open this year’s Temporary Emergency Shelter, which for the first time will be open round the clock and participants can stay during the day.

Secured funding is coming from the cities of Oxnard and Ventura and the County of Ventura, along with private donations. These funds should allow the shelter to run through June, compared to March in past years. The Shelter will stay open as long as funding allows.

Every year, dozens of needy individuals and families rely on sheltering during the winter months (last year, there were more than 600 unduplicated users). The shelter will provide a hot shower, a warm catered meal, a bed and a safe haven during the chilly and rainy winter.

An experienced manager and team of workers, along with volunteers, will operate this year’s shelter at the Army National Guard Armory in Oxnard at 351 S. K Street, and we are asking for the community’s help.

This is the first time the shelter will be open 24 hours, so costs will go up from previous years.

Any private monies raised will go to provide the best service we can and ensure the shelter stays open as long as possible.

Thank you for your interest in extending a generous hand and compassionate heart for those who are homeless in our community.
