Family Reconnection Program
The Downtown Ventura Partners’ Family Reconnection Program provides free transportation to eligible, needy individuals who, for whatever reason, end up vulnerable on Ventura’s streets and are seeking a way to reconnect with a family member or support group. This could include transportation to an immediate family member, a relative, a rehabilitation facility or assisted living center, among others. The program works to place the client in an environment best suited for his or her personal success.
All clients work directly with a Park Ambassador or local case worker to ensure their eligibility, and more importantly, to ensure that someone will be waiting to receive the client when he or she arrives to their destination. Strict documentation is required for all clients before any transportation is purchased, and the Ventura Police Department assists in the screening process to rule out any outstanding warrants or unresolved legal issues.
Since its inception in 2012, the program has assisted over 400 individuals, including an individual who had been living in the river bottom for 20+ years, a woman who agreed to alcohol treatment, a 14-year-old girl who was left in Ventura by a boyfriend, and a single mother with an infant son who was penniless after fleeing an abusive household.
