Merchant Matters

The DVO is a merchant driven organization.  This means we are here to support you, the merchant.  This page will be the nerve center of all the things we are doing, working on, and striving for on your behalf.  We request that you check in often and make sure to let us know how we are doing along the way.

Junipero Serra Awards

The DVO is proud to introduce the 2nd annual “Junipero Serra Awards,” soon to be known and beloved as the “Juni’s.” The purpose of these awards is to honor and celebrate our diverse and passionate Downtown merchants and businesses, with the awards voted on and chosen by you, the Downtown community.

Let’s celebrate the greatness of Downtown and the people who make it great. There are 12 categories. Please vote for one Downtown business or individual(s) for each category. Then mark your calendar. The Junipero Serra Awards will be awarded at the DVO End of the Year in the first quarter of 2014. Specific date TBD. Happy voting!

You can vote online by clicking here!

Call to Contributors

We will be featuring new posts on our Merchant Matters page every month. This is intended to be a resource for you, by you! Sam Benner from WSI Global Marketing will be our first contributor. If you think you have a special knack for business or knowledge you’d like to share, please let us know. The post doesn’t have to be long, just a few paragraphs with quick tips. Your article will be linked to your website, which will increase your footprint on global searching sites. We will also feature your submissions at our quarterly merchant meetings.

Share and Shop in Downtown

NeedThree, a new downtown design firm, has developed a “Shop Downtown” logo for the Downtown community. We are going to be doing monthly contests through Facebook where we are asking our followers to “Like” and share the graphic. This way all of their friends will see the Shop Downtown logo and our audience will grow. Once a month, we will randomly draw a name from those who shared the logo and give them a giftcard from a Downtown location.  We are seeking contributions, such as giftcards or giveaways. If you’d like to be part of this promotion, please let Meredith know. Thanks!

Looking for a few good windows! We want you!

The Children’s Celebration of the Arts outreach program is now in its 22nd year and is designed to teach children about the visual and performing arts through authentic hands-on participation in line with California State standards.

They would like to display the art projects in Downtown stores for the month of June. More than 8,000 students will receive guides of where the art is exhibited. In addition, the City will promote this project to more then 4,000 in their Ventura Community mailer. This is a fantastic opportunity to get new customers in your store all while supporting our schools and the arts.

There are 22 projects with various themes that need a home. All range from 3-5 art pieces. If you are interested please email Meredith as soon as possible and she will send you a list of the projects you can choose from! While the display isn’t until June, the printing materials will be made with your store and address within the next month. Please act quickly.

Gordon Research is coming to Town

It’s that time of year again…Gordon Research Conference is returning!  Annie from the Ventura Visitors and Convention Bureau is working on setting up tour excursions for the attendees, providing Ventura information, and communicating with the organizers.

  • This year’s GRC is in Ventura from January 6-March 22.
  • This is the largest conference of the year, bringing in over 4,800 attendees spread out over almost 3 months.
  • There will be 400 new attendees each week.
  • The attendees are top scientists from all over the world (about half of the attendees are international).
  • Gordon Research Conference has been coming to Ventura and staying in local hotels for over 15 years…let’s give them a big Downtown welcome so they will continue to return.

Please print the ‘Welcome GRC Attendees’ sign and place in your window. This informs the GRC Attendees that we are aware of their presence and that we welcome them to Ventura.

This year, the Visitors & Convention Bureau has purchased the Ventura Axxess Card for all GRC attendees.  The Axxess Card offers a convenient and streamlined way for the attendees to receive their discounts.

A Monday-Thursday continuous shuttle service for the GRC attendees has been coordinated.  One of the 3 stops will bring them into Downtown.
