VFS Screening of The Battle Of Algiers

March 25, 2014 @ 7:15 am - 9:00 pm

$5 – $10

The Battle of Algiers will screen on Tuesday March 25 at 7:15pm, at the VFS’s new state of the art location, 420 E. Santa Clara St. Tickets are $10 general, $7 for seniors and $5 for students. This is a legendary film about the culmination of struggles between the French occupation of Algeria in the late 1950s, and the fierce resistance movement by the FLN to liberate their country from 130 years of French occupation, something that finally occurred in 1962. Often cited as one of the greatest political thrillers ever made, Battle of Algiers, by Italian director Gillo Pontecorvo, is a cinematic and social landmark. It explores the meaning and quest for freedom like few films ever have. It also vividly portrays the dilemma of the French, of all occupiers, proving the dictum that when you enslave a people you enslave yourself. Click here to view the trailer.
