VFS screening of Sapphires at at the VFS’s new state of the art location, 420 E. Santa Clara St. on Tuesday October 1 at 7:15pm. Tickets are $10 general, $7 for seniors and $5 for students. It’s 1968 and four vivacious and talented Aboriginal girls, Cynthia, Gail, Julie, and Kay, learn a lot about love, friendship and war. Inspired by a true story, “THE SAPPHIRES” is the name of their all-girl group. With the help of Dave, a hungry talent scout with very little rhythm but a great knowledge of American soul & DooWop music, they get a gig entertaining U.S. troops in Vietnam, giving them and Dave their first and fleeting taste of stardom.
